Buying a new western saddle is one of the biggest investments you'll make in your riding career — and getting it wrong could mean discomfort for you and your horse for years. At Saddle Up Colorado, we carry new western saddles from over a dozen American and trusted international makers, with 300+ new saddles in stock at any time. Every saddle purchase includes access to our professional saddle fitting service, whether you visit our Gilcrest, Colorado shop or work with us by phone from a distance . Our specialty is knowing how the underside of saddles fit the top sides of horses. Prices range from $900 for entry-level models to $4,000+ for handcrafted customs, and we ship nationwide with free shipping over $99.
Trail saddles are our highest-volume category — and for good reason. If you're spending 4+ hours in the seat, comfort for both you and the horse matters more than anything else. We carry new trail saddles from Circle Y, HR Saddlery, Tucker, Big Horn, and High Horse in a variety of different tree fits. Key features to look for: padded seats, do you prefer a low cantle or a higher cantle, smooth leather seat or suede for a little more stick, lightweight construction.
Barrel saddles are built for speed — deep seats, forward-hung stirrups, close contact skirts that let you feel every stride. We stock new barrel racing saddles from Circle Y (including the Martha Josey line), Martin Saddlery, Scott Thomas Saddlery and Billy Cook in seat sizes from 13" to 17". If you're competing seriously, the difference between a well-fitted barrel saddle and one that's close enough shows up in your times. Ask about our saddle fitting service before you buy.
Wade saddles are the working horseman's go-to — heavy horn for dallying, deep hard seat for all-day ranch work, and wide swells for security. We carry new wade saddles from McCall, Scott Thomas, and HR Saddlery — including FQHB and wide tree options for hard-to-fit horses. Our new ranch saddles include both traditional ranching styles and ranch cutter designs for riders who work cattle and rope. McCall is one of our top-selling new saddle brands, and for good reason — their quality holds up under daily ranch use.
We stock new roping saddles built for team roping and calf roping from Billy Cook and Martin Saddlery, plus reining saddles for riders who need a free-moving skirt and close contact. We also carry saddles for gaited horses, mules, draft horses, endurance, mounted shooting, and youth riders. If your horse or discipline isn't standard, that's whereSaddle Up’s 29 years of fitting experience makes the difference — They’ve fit saddles on everything from Haflingers to 17-hand Mule-Draft crosses.
Every new saddle purchase comes with guidance on tree width, seat size, and horse conformation. Saddle Up has been fitting saddles since 1997 and specializes in horses with non-standard builds — wide backs, high withers, flat backs, and everything in between.
Try before you commit. Our local saddle trial program lets you try up to 3 saddles for 2–3 days. If the fit isn't right, bring it back and we'll help you find a better match.

New western saddle prices range from about $900 for entry-level synthetic or import models to $4,000+ for handcrafted American-made saddles. Mid-range brands like Big Horn and High Horse typically run $900–$2,300. Premium makers like Circle Y, McCall, and Billy Cook are priced from $2,200 to $4,000 + depending on tooling and customization.
Western saddle seat size is measured from the base of the horn to the center of the cantle. Most adult riders fit a 15" to 16" seat. You should be able to fit about four fingers between your thigh and the swell. Tree width depends on your horse's conformation — regular, semi-QH, and full-QH bars all fit differently. Call us at (303) 772-7821 for help sizing.
A wade saddle has a specific A Fork tree style with a heavy, low wood post horn designed for strength when dallying rope. Ranch saddles are a broader category that includes wade-style, A-fork, and association trees. Wade saddles are a subset of ranch saddles, but not all ranch saddles have a wade tree. Outside of the Wade saddles ranch saddles will have a stout wide swell.
